The second version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) are used as defacto standards by governments and organizations worldwide. Quebec's Standard Sur L' Accessibilité d' un Site Web (SGQRI 008-01) references WCAG 2.0 as an "international standard", and includes 80 references to WCAG 2.0. Participants in this workshop will explore WAVE: a free-to-use web application for evaluating web pages.
The WAVE tool is provided by WebAIM at Utah State University. WAVE identifies the strengths and weaknesses of a web page's markup (HTML, CSS, ARIA and JS) through an automated process. WAVE reports are structured to help users:
- Identify page elements that may not be WCAG 2.0-compliant
- Review the WCAG 2.0 Success Criteria relevant to an identified page element
- Understand what is needed for WCAG 2.0 compliance
In this workshop, participants will:
- Receive an overview of WAVE
- Observe a webpage evaluation
- Conduct a webpage evaluation (BYOD)

Biographie
George joined Utah State University as an Instructional Designer in 2008. His course development and research activities have focused on distance learning delivered through a learning management system. Web accessibility is a core design requirement in the process that George uses to develop web-based courses and applications. In 2015 George joined the WebAIM (Web Accessibility In Mind) group as a Web Accessibility Specialist. WebAIM is a non-profit organization based at the Center for Persons with Disabilities.
